That Thing About Backspace
You know the thing about words ? Once spoken, you cannot
take them back.
I speak not of high moral values and of the control we need to have over our tongues,
I speak of the beauty and the simplicity of conversing verbally.
Have not all of us had something to say to someone,
An apology maybe, that we couldn't gather the guts to deliver on the face:
A liking maybe, so strong that could make you go weak if you dare to talk of it for real;
Or a secret, which you cannot say, but cannot keep.
How beautiful it would be if we could just say it out loud,
I speak not of high moral values and of the control we need to have over our tongues,
I speak of the beauty and the simplicity of conversing verbally.
Have not all of us had something to say to someone,
An apology maybe, that we couldn't gather the guts to deliver on the face:
A liking maybe, so strong that could make you go weak if you dare to talk of it for real;
Or a secret, which you cannot say, but cannot keep.
How beautiful it would be if we could just say it out loud,
“ I miss you, and that little and handful of messages that we exchanged,”
How I wish i could just say,
Because I know, as I type the same on my cell phone,
I may take a second thought, and the backspace could just wipe off the emotions off the screen.
And you’d never know, because i gave it thought more,
And that builds up a wall, virtual but strong.
Or maybe,
I’ll still want to write something to you, If not what I feel, then something as simple and harmless as a "Goodnight" .
We both know I am not sleeping yet,
How can I fall asleep, When half of my soul stays awake with you ?
I cannot fall asleep, because its only when you shut your eyes, that I fall asleep.
The desire burns ever so bright, it’s just that the flame never reaches out enough.
But not saying it, does fade the fire.
Just maybe, Either of us shall choose not to give it a second thought tomorrow.
