Metamorphosis

She woke up on a Monday morning
Her heart on her sleeve
and her head with a hangover
She looked distantly at the clock to her left,
but she couldn't keep her focus.
She reached out to her cell phone,
but too difficult to make out
little tiny texts
through the million pieces of glass
that her screen had shattered into.
She looked to her right,
and cringed at the site
A wire hung naked
right next to her bed post
like an invitation
to offer her a tiny touch
and  most definitely a shock of a lifetime.
Thank god, was she not relieved.
and when her heart beat,
slowed to its usual pace
"What am I even thankful for?"
She chuckled.
She put her feet,
down to the cold floor.
Summer in the balcony,
but a winter all around her.
With all her strength, she put her weight
onto her feet,
too tired from all the dancing last night,
out of which, sadly, she could recall none.
And all at once,
she fell down to the ground.
But there she is,
she stood up again,
It was time,
to let it go.

Let the hangover be over, let the heart ache be just a story to tell her friends
over a cup of coffee maybe
or over a beer, but never would she, she swore to herself.
hold another of those wretched liquids possess her thoughts, that made her linger back to years of sophomore and indecisiveness.
It wasn't even about love, it wasn't about a man who she couldn't have,
a love that was forbidden, or a thing she couldn't have.
It was about the person she had become,
so weak.. A person who'd break into tears at the tiniest of her fears
who would need to hold a hand, to cross the rod.
so huge were her worries,
so little was the time she thought she had.
She felt alone,
but to a point that she made herself believe that she felt nothing at all.
She ran back to things she had so happily left behind,
A town that made her feel caged, a home she couldn't step a foot out of.
She just wished to be back for once, and start all over again.
So much that she wanted,
so little she thought she could do.
that was a day,
But today.
As she stood
looked into the mirror
fixed the creases on her dress,
tucked her hair neatly behind her ear,
held a smile for longer than she held a worry
and looked into her reflection.
She realized everything that she had done wrong in the past half decade.
She didn't look for long into the mirror,
because for once
she knows now
whatever she has to do,
she shall do it now.

Its time.
